Brazos Electric is seeking a skilled and dedicated Electrical Substation Patrolman to join our team of professionals committed to powering communities with safety, reliability, and integrity. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the health and performance of our transmission system and high-voltage substation facilities across the Brazos Electric system.

What You’ll Do

Maintain System Reliability

• Install, repair, and maintain transmission and distribution equipment to ensure system reliability and reduce outage time.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and repair on substation equipment, including LTCs, regulators, switches, breakers, transformers, reactors, capacitors, meters, relays, nitrogen cylinders, HVAC systems, and more.
• Perform weekly inspections of assigned substations; track and report equipment operating data and maintain detailed records.
• Test tap changers, regulator controls, reclosers, battery banks, and high-side switches.
• Maintain and service battery banks; dismantle, clean, replace terminals, and record results.
• Perform root cause analysis on equipment issues and make independent decisions regarding repairs.
• Inspect transmission lines, conductors, poles, and hardware; identify issues and assist in expediting repairs.
• Replace nitrogen bottles, repair nitrogen leaks, maintain small equipment, and manage parts inventory.

Perform Critical Switching Operations

• Operate a wide variety of substation switches as directed by System Operations.
• Conduct switching for Brazos Electric and external utilities.
• Support system restoration efforts during storms, equipment failures, and emergencies—including wildfires.
• Inspect equipment after outages and assess whether components can be safely re-energized.

Support Site Security, Vegetation Management & Compliance

• Maintain substation and switch yard grounds, including tree trimming, brush removal, and washout repair.
• Apply herbicides safely and effectively.
• Inspect and maintain security apparatuses such as gates, fences, cameras, rodent controls, and bird deterrents.
• Report break-ins and file police reports when necessary.
• Maintain lighting, housekeeping, control houses, and company vehicles.
• Perform and document ERCOT Winter/Summer Weatherization tasks and participate in inspections.
• Support coworker training and promote safe work practices.
• Assist fellow employees when stranded or needing help in the field.

24/7 Support

You will be part of an on-call rotation providing round-the-clock response to outages across the Brazos Electric system.

What You’ll Bring

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of substation or transmission line experience, or relevant military experience.
• Must reside within the service area of Comanche, TX
