Holy Child seeks an experienced Middle and Upper School Music Teacher and Liturgical Music Coordinator. Ideal candidates are passionate arts educators with experience teaching music at the High School or Middle School level, who possess strong piano skills and knowledge of Catholic liturgies and liturgical music. This is predominantly a choral music position, but experience and comfort teaching instrumental music is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach 2-3 sections of General Music to grades 5 and 6
Teach 1 section of Middle School Choral Ensemble to grades 7 and 8
Teach 1-2 sections of Upper School Beginner/Intermediate and/or Advanced Choir to grades 9-12
Potentially teach 1-2 sections of Instrumental Ensemble to grades 7-12
Work with the Director of the Arts and Performing Arts Faculty to coordinate and plan the Christmas and Spring Concerts and prepare students for both events
Prepare students to perform at school events, including graduation, as well as other student life and development events throughout the year
Coordinate music for liturgies and prayer services with Campus Ministry
Play the piano for liturgies and at events throughout the school year
Collaborate with the Director of the Arts and Performing Arts Faculty to design/map curriculum, create interdisciplinary opportunities for learning, share resources, and evaluate effective methods of teaching; participate in regular meetings with the Director of the Arts
Provide support for students outside of class time, as needed
Serve as a Middle or Upper School Advisor to 8-12 students
Show a commitment to community and belonging
Communicate professionally and compassionately with every member of the community: students, families, and colleagues alike
Attend and participate in parent conferences and school events
Participate in grade-level, faculty, and school-wide meetings, as needed
Cover study halls, lunch duties, and other assignments, as needed
Work with students in Grades 5-12 through clubs/teams or advisory, as needed
Qualifications:
BA, BM, or BFA required; MA, MM, or MFA preferred
Minimum of 1-3 years Middle and/or Upper School Teaching experience preferred
Strong piano skills required
Knowledge of the Catholic liturgy is required
Experience teaching similar vocal music content is required
Some musical theater experience preferred
Experience with audio/sound systems preferred
Strong planning and organizational skills
A good sense of humor and collegial spirit
Coupled with these credentials, the candidate will have a flexible and team-oriented approach to arts education, exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail, and superior interpersonal skills. In addition, candidates with experience in an all-girls, faith-based school and those who will embrace our School's mission of "developing women of conscience and action" are preferable.
