The Co-op School was founded in 2003 by a group of parents who saw the need for a high-quality and affordable preschool option in the Clinton Hill and Fort Greene neighborhoods. Since then, the Co-op School has matured from a small, parent-run playgroup to a fully staffed and licensed non-profit school.
After residing in two prior homes in Clinton Hill, The Co-op School moved into 87 Irving Place in the fall of 2009. In 2011, The Co-op School launched the first kindergarten class of its elementary program at 40 Brevoort Place. In 2019, we opened our doors at 644 Gates Avenue in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood—in a 3,500-square-foot building with a double-height gym, a rooftop library, and two playgrounds—housing our preschool, lower school, and middle school students under one roof.

The mission of The Co-op School is to inspire passion and teach children to become protagonists in their own educational journey by fostering their innate sense of curiosity and creativity. The Co-op School facilitates joyful learning through a unique and rigorous constructivist approach that listens to and honors the individual interests and strengths of each child. The Co-op School doesn’t just belong to the students and educators but extends to the family community as a whole. It belongs to those who participate in it and is a more resilient and creative place because of it.
JOB SUMMARY
The Co-op School is seeking a dedicated Extended Day Supervisor to join our team for our summer program. We are looking for someone who possesses the following skills and qualities:
Passionate about working with children
A sense of humor and joyful spirit
Minimum 3 years experience in a school, camp or childcare setting with children ages 2-10
Experience leading groups of children and working with teacher teams or multiple counselors
Strong communication skills with both staff and families
Attention to detail, strong organizational and administrative skills
Can-do attitude and a team spirit
Must be 18 years or older and legally eligible to work in the United States
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise a staff of 5-10 counselors during camp extended day hours from 3-6PM
Ensure the Co-op School’s mission and values are upheld inside and outside the camp room
Serve as the primary point of contact for all staff and camp families during extended day hours
Coordinate staff schedules and communicate schedule and any changes in a timely manner and with Clarity
Ensure strict compliance with all DOH camp ratios, health and safety protocols
Collect and process extended day attendance records
Ensure extended day rooms are stocked with all materials needed for snack and activities. Request materials from Camp Director or Assistant Director as needed
Ensure that all extended day rooms are cleaned properly before staff leave for the day, and that all staff have exited the building before closing
Step in to substitute for absent counselors to ensure DOH ratio compliance, as needed
Ensure that extended day hours maintain a regular structure that provide campers with both a routine and novel day-to-day activities
Attend a staff orientation and assist with extended day scheduling ahead of the start of the camp season
Hourly Rate: $27.00/ Hour
Level: Full Time, Seasonal
Mandatory New Staff Orientation: June 10, 2026, from 3:00-5:00
Mandatory Camp Family Meet-and-Greet: June 12, 2026, from 3:00-4:00
Camp Season: June 15-August 14th, 2026
Schedule: Monday-Friday from 2:30-6:30
This Position reports directly to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Summer Camp
