Blood Assurance is seeking an experienced and motivated full time SBB Program Director to lead and advance our Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) training program at our Headquarters located in Chattanooga, TN. This role provides academic, clinical, and administrative oversight of the program while ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
In addition to program leadership responsibilities, this role includes active clinical job duties within the Blood Assurance Reference Laboratory and a strong focus on advancing training and career ladder opportunities for laboratory staff. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing future leaders in transfusion medicine while supporting operational excellence and workforce development.
Qualified SBB Program Director candidates will need:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or SBB certification.
ASCP certification as a Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) required.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in blood banking / transfusion medicine, preferred.
Demonstrated experience in education, training, mentorship, or program coordination.
Strong knowledge of immunohematology, reference laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory standards.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Supervisor License preferred.
Prior experience as an SBB program director, assistant director, or instructor, preferred.
Experience administering or supporting a NAACLS-accredited program, preferred.
Background working within a regional blood center or reference laboratory environment.
Demonstrated commitment to staff development and career advancement.

Blood Assurance is a nonprofit, full-service regional blood center serving 64 healthcare facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina. More than 540 volunteer blood donors are needed every day in order to adequately supply these hospitals. Founded in 1972 as a joint effort of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, the Chattanooga Area Hospital Council and the Chattanooga Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce), the mission of Blood Assurance is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components in a cost effective manner to every area patient in need.
Currently, there are 11 fixed locations and 13 bloodmobiles to collect lifesaving blood products used by area patients. Blood Assurance is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks, the Tennessee Association of Blood Banks, the Tennessee Hospital Association, Blood Centers of America, the Georgia Department of Community Health, the Tennessee Department of Health, and the Chattanooga Area Hospital Council.
