Charlotte Latin School is searching for a 5th-grade Science teacher. This is a full-time, 10-month position that will begin August 2026.
Description:
Teach and assess 5th-grade Next Gen Science standards with a variety of tools and pedagogical strategies
Facilitate inquiry-based, hands-on experiments that align with Next Gen Science Standards that enable and inspire students to learn through questioning, exploration, and observation.
Teach the scientific process and experimental design.
Teach non-fiction critical reading, analysis, and synthesis skills in the content area of Science to 100 fifth-grade students in classes of 25 for 45-minute blocks, 2 blocks daily.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques, project-based lesson-design principles, technology, and media that guide the learning process toward student mastery
Use a variety of resources to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration
Serve as a Home Room Co-Lead with the Social Studies teacher
Support Social Studies Co-Lead with classroom management and instructional support as needed. Collaborate on coordinating the instruction of the two content areas for appropriate balance for students and teachers
Work directly with colleagues in the development, implementation, and evaluation of fifth-grade curriculum.
Collaborate with Middle School Science Teachers to ensure students have the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful at the next level.
Attend professional development and training related to teaching Science
Participate in committee work, faculty meetings, and carpool duty as scheduled
Work with the Leads with Honor faculty on the 5th-grade garden
Incorporate movement and the Responsive Classroom pillars into classroom management and routine
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, required
Minimum of three years teaching experience, preferably with an emphasis in Science
Teaching experience in grades 3-6 preferred
Inquiry-based teaching experience
Experience
Strong classroom management skills with a commitment to safety and civility
Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group
Ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school.
Show a great deal of flexibility in working with colleagues and students and sharing classroom space.
Willing and able to resolve conflicts with colleagues, parents, and between students.
