GS MakerTech Teacher (26-27 School Year)
Job Summary
CGPS seeks a dynamic and creative Grammar School MakerTech Teacher to foster a love of learning and innovation in our K-5 students. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of both high-tech and low-tech tools and be adept at guiding students through engaging, technology-rich project-based learning experiences.
Using both teacher-created and Project Lead the Way units, the candidate will plan and teach intellectually engaging lessons that integrate technology and engineering design across the curriculum while fostering a collaborative, creative learning environment.
Educators must be certified by Project Lead the Way in order to teach the elementary units. CGPS will pay all associated costs for attending the course training.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Lead MakerTech classes that empower students to develop creative problem-solving skills through hands-on projects in fabrication, media production, and programming and robotics
Demonstrate effective classroom management and the ability to establish and maintain a collaborative, supportive learning environment
Establish student safety protocols for tools and equipment
Model and teach acceptable use of technology and digital citizenship concepts and skills
Collaborate with the GS STEM Department Head and department colleagues on instructional practices, assessment practices, and enhancements to the curriculum
Responsible for coverage of duties, as assigned
Skills & Experience
Demonstrated excellence in elementary teaching
Experience with using a design process (Design Thinking or other)
Experience developing and maintaining a maker space, including the skills to teach using physical and digital tools and software, and troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues (See the tools and skills list below.)
A demonstrated ability to innovate, problem-solve, and differentiate the curriculum to support and enrich the learning experience for all students
An intellectual curiosity, an aptitude for learning, and a commitment to ongoing professional learning
Effective communicator; ability to communicate articulately (verbal and written) with the community
Successful experience building relational trust with colleagues and modeling collaboration focused on student success
Background in teaching elementary science is advantageous
Qualifications BA/BS degree in Educational Technology or elementary education Responsive Classroom Training is a plus; willingness to take the course is necessary
Work Hours
7:45 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday Weekly faculty and department meetings until 4:30 pm
