Position Summary:

Virginia Episcopal School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach and Program Director for the 2026–27 academic year to help cultivate a competitive and character-driven volleyball program. This role may also include teaching responsibilities, involvement in residential life, and active participation in the broader boarding school community. The ideal candidate will serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, uphold the mission and values of the school, and contribute to building an inclusive team culture rooted in the school's guiding principle of "Toward Full Stature."

Primary Responsibilities:

Coaching & Program Leadership

• Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for the entire girls’ volleyball program, including varsity and sub-varsity teams.
• Plan and lead all practices, training sessions, and match-day operations with a clear emphasis on skill development, team systems, and competitive excellence.
• Design long-term player development models aligned with collegiate expectations and modern volleyball standards.
• Create and sustain a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture rooted in accountability, respect, and sportsmanship.
• Hire, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
• Coordinate scheduling, travel, equipment, uniforms, and budget management in collaboration with the Athletic Department.
• Represent the volleyball program professionally within conference, league, and independent school affiliations.

College Placement & Recruiting Focus

• Actively support student-athletes interested in playing volleyball at the collegiate level.
• Collaborate closely with the College Counseling Office to guide recruiting timelines, communication, and placement strategy.
• Assist student-athletes with film evaluation, recruiting profiles, outreach to college coaches, and showcase/event selection.
• Build relationships with college coaches and club programs to enhance exposure and placement opportunities.
• Partner with the Admissions Office on recruiting prospective student-athletes aligned with the school’s mission and values.

Teaching Responsibilities:

• Teach 1–2 sections of a core academic subject, elective, or physical education course based on qualifications and departmental needs.
• Design and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction aligned with departmental and school-wide expectations.
• Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, supporting their academic progress, personal development, and overall well-being.
• Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, and school life initiatives.

 Residential Life:

• Participate in dormitory supervision (typically 1–2 nights per week).
• Support residential programming and student life activities.
• Serve as a mentor and trusted adult presence within the boarding community.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Previous coaching experience at the high school, AAU, or collegiate level strongly preferred.
• Experience working in an independent school or residential setting is a plus.
• Ability to teach in an academic department (e.g., English, Math, History, Science, PE).
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to building a positive and inclusive team culture.
