The Head Tennis Coach provides leadership and direction for the college’s men’s and women’s tennis teams, including but not limited to program budgeting, student recruitment, training and development of staff and players. The Head Tennis Coach is responsible for the development of student-athletes and supports the mission of Division III athletics, and the mission of the college. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
Job Duties
Recruit and evaluate high school and college athletes within college admissions and NCAA Division III guidelines
Facilitate team compliance with all NCAA Division III, Southern Athletics Association (SAA), and Millsaps College philosophies, emphasizing quality educational experience and academic success
Provide on field coaching of athlete skill development and assistant coach development
Hire, supervise, and develop an assistant coach
Maintain a consistent office schedule
Strategically plan and executive team practice schedules and sessions
Manage and balance yearly program budget
Oversee team travel and logistics, including vehicles, lodging, and meals
Coordinate information exchanges with conference & non-conference opponents
Monitor academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and counseling
Lead fund-raising programs to augment operations budget
Maintain parent and alumnae communication
Oversee the management and maintenance of equipment inventory
Accept game-day administrator obligations each semester, if necessary
Participate in various other areas of interest for the College and Department of Athletics
Organize community service activities for team members and coaches
Accept additional duties assigned by the Athletics Director
Millsaps College is a selective institution of higher education located on 100 beautiful acres in the heart of Jackson, the capital of Mississippi — a progressive southern metropolitan city of nearly half a million. Millsaps is a member of the NCAA Division III and Southern Athletic Association and competes in 18 intercollegiate sports.
