CGPS seeks a dynamic and creative Grammar School STEM Teacher to foster a love of learning and innovation in our K-5 students. As a member of the STEM Department and the Grammar School Faculty, the teacher is responsible for teaching a combination of science and MakerTech classes. The ideal candidate is skilled at facilitating hands-on, inquiry-based learning that empowers students to act as young scientists, engineers, and makers.
Using both teacher-created and Project Lead the Way units, the candidate will plan and teach intellectually engaging lessons that integrate science, technology, and engineering design across the curriculum. Educators must be certified by Project Lead the Way to teach the elementary units; CGPS will pay all associated costs for the required training.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Scientific Practices: Guide students in asking questions, developing models, planning investigations, analyzing data, and crafting evidence-based explanations.
Technology and Design Practices: Guide students in developing creative problem-solving skills through hands-on projects in fabrication, media production, programming, and robotics.
Classroom Environment: Create a safe, curiosity-driven, and collaborative setting that encourages investigation and active problem-solving.
Assessment: Utilize formative and summative assessments to measure student progress in both content understanding, scientific practices, and technology concepts and skills.
Showcase Student Work: Plan and execute family science/MakerTech shares for students to present their learning and projects.
Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the GS STEM Department Head and department colleagues on instructional practices and curriculum development and refinement.
Communication: Maintain consistent, articulate communication with families regarding each child's progress through anecdotal records, reports, and conferences.
Professionalism: Participate in faculty meetings, school-wide functions, and assigned duties as required.
Skills & Experience
Demonstrated excellence in elementary STEM teaching
Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards
Experience with using a design process (Design Thinking or other)
Experience developing and maintaining a science lab and maker space
An intellectual curiosity, an aptitude for learning, and a commitment to ongoing professional learning
Effective communicator; ability to communicate articulately (verbal and written) with the community
Successful experience building relational trust with colleagues and modeling collaboration focused on student success
Qualifications
BA/BS degree in elementary education, concentration in elementary science is a plus
Responsive Classroom Training is a plus; willingness to take the course is necessary
Work Hours
7:45 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday
Weekly faculty and department meetings until 4:30 pm
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $76,000- $118,500 annually based on completed degree programs and years of experience. We also offer a warm and supportive culture as well as exceptional benefits including but not limited to:
