Shady Hill is seeking an experienced Director of Student Health and Wellness to join our team. The Director of Student Health and Wellness will be the senior administrator responsible for student health and wellness. The Director will oversee the Health Office, support SHS counseling services, and manage all SHS health policies, procedures, and employee health-related training. This is a full-time, exempt (salaried), in-person, 12-month (year-round) position reporting to the CFOO.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Provide strategic leadership for student health, well-being, accessibility, and learning support services across the institution
Provide leadership and coordination for Health Office and collaborate with Division Heads regarding counseling services, student well-being, and coordinated care
Lead the integration of health, counseling, and student support services to promote student well-being, accessibility, and academic success
Build trusting, collaborative relationships with all stakeholders that demonstrates interprofessional partnerships across the continuum of care, practice setting and community
Work with counseling team to maintain and enhance SEL and wellness curricula
Provide direct health and wellness support to students, including assessment of student health concerns, coordination of care, administration or oversight of routine medical services as appropriate, and collaboration with families and outside medical and mental health providers regarding student care and support needs
Serve as primary point of contact for medical emergencies, complex clinical issues, and elevated parent/caregiver health concerns
Work closely with student support teams on individual student needs, including consultation regarding student learning plans and accommodations as needed
Lead monthly clinical health team meetings with Lower School Psychologist, Middle School Counselor, and Head Nurse to coordinate support plans for high risk students; oversee student medical leaves and return to school plans
Support and consult with the Director of Athletics and athletic trainer regarding the care, recovery, and return-to-activity plans of injured student-athletes
Operational Oversight
Oversee the school’s nursing and student health services program, including supervision of nursing staff, coordination of student medical care and health-related support services, and collaboration with families and outside providers regarding student health and wellness needs
Oversee Health Office scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and operational effectiveness; provide direct patient care as needed
Update and maintain a Health Office Manual and related operational documentation
Compliance and Emergency Management
Develop, review, and maintain school-wide clinical health policies, standing orders, emergency procedures, and protocols in consultation with the school’s consulting physician and in compliance with state regulations and best practices
Maintain Health Office compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including Massachusetts Department of Public Health reporting requirements for immunizations, asthma, and other mandated health reporting
Ensure Health Office maintains accurate, up-to-date, and secure electronic medical records and that staff adhere to documentation standards and confidentiality requirements
Communicate proactively with leadership team, families, and employees about infectious disease prevention, public health concerns, and health-related protocols
Education, Training, and Professional Responsibilities
Conduct health-related training for of employees as necessary
Maintain professional competencies through continuing medical education, ongoing licensure requirements, and engagement with staying current trends and best practices in with school health and student well-being trends and license obligations
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing with MSN preferred
Advanced Practice Nurse (APNP/NP) currently licensed in Massachusetts
7-10 years in family practice care; pediatric and adolescent care preferred
Previous experience in a school setting required
Prior leadership experience, managing health services staff budgets and operations preferred
Familiarity with school health laws/regulations
Collaborative leadership style
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with a diversity of constituents, including students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators
Awareness, appreciation and comfort caring for the emotional and physical health and well-being of a diverse student body including racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, language and gender identity diversity, including knowledge of best-practices for inclusive care
Prior experience with SNAP and Magnus Health Portal preferred
The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000 annually.
