GCDS seeks a School Security Officer to start in August 2026. This position works throughout the academic year and during portions of the 5-week summer camp program.

Responsibilities Include:

• Maintain vigilant presence on campus grounds, including all athletic fields
• Monitor all campus buildings by walking through each throughout the course of the school day
• Approach and identify any suspicious persons and/or vehicles on campus
• Maintain radio contact with the Director of Security and the Director of Facilities
• Participate in lockdown and fire drills, and practice of evacuation procedures
• Respond to any injury, illness, or accident reported on campus
• Other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5-years of experience in law enforcement
• Must hold or be able to legally possess a valid state of CT pistol permit 
• Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
• High School Diploma
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and ability to operate a vehicle, and the necessary equipment
• Must have training and be proficient with the handling of a firearm
• Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
• Ability to maintain records and prepare written reports with accuracy
• Proficiency with computer applications, including calendar, email, and database software
• Ability to maintain a friendly demeanor, positive relationships, and effective   communication with school personnel, parents, and local law enforcement
• Ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions
• Ability to walk, run, and swim
