The Berkeley Carroll School is a Pre-K through grade 12 college-preparatory school of almost 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn in New York City. Berkeley Carroll is seeking an experienced Athletic Trainer for a full-time position to start in August 2026. The Athletic Trainer at Berkeley Carroll is responsible for coordinating and administering sports medicine services to all middle and upper school student-athletes, including but not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The Athletic Trainer reports to the School’s Athletic Director. We also expect the Athletic Trainer to be responsible for a number of Athletics Department-related administrative duties and to be an involved and enthusiastic member of the school community.
The Athletic Trainer at Berkeley Carroll has unique hours, reporting to school by 10:30 am and remaining on the job––either at home games or on campus––until contests and practices for the day have been completed. When an injury is reported, the Athletic Trainer remains at Berkeley Carroll until the injured player returns, assesses the situation, and takes the appropriate next steps.
Responsibilities:
Athletic Health
Function as a liaison to and foster an environment of communication and collaboration with physicians, student-athletes, families, the Athletic Director, the Health Team, faculty, and administration.
Apply the most current, evidence-based practices, techniques, and products for evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, taping, and return-to-play decisions—while aligning with each student-athlete’s preferences, and in accordance with guidelines set by the NATA, NCAA, and NFHS.
Provide game coverage for all home athletic events and work with local ATC services to arrange game coverage when there are multiple home games in multiple locations.
Evaluate and treat all injuries sustained by students, whether occurring during athletic practices or competitions, club activities, or school-day events such as physical education or break periods, ensuring appropriate communication to all relevant stakeholders.
Design and maintain rehabilitation programs and treatment plans, ensuring proper documentation and appropriate communication to all relevant stakeholders.
Work with coaches and athletes on pre-season, in-season, and post-season flexibility, mobility, strength and conditioning routines and treatment plans that can assist in injury prevention as well as rehabilitation and recovery.
Administrative Duties
Prepare and stock medical kits and AED packs for all practices and games.
Maintain an accurate inventory of athletic training equipment and supplies, and recommend updates or purchases.
Maintain coaches’ certifications (CPR/AED, First Aid), team assignments, and contact information in the Coaches Directory.
Create and manage team rosters, track daily attendance, and notify coaches of student absences.
Support the Director of Athletics and Assistant AD in confirming game schedules weekly or bi-weekly.
Help respond to family inquiries regarding athletic forms and documentation.
Maintain and operate a clean, organized, and functional athletic training room.
Administer Baseline Concussion Surveys to Varsity and JV athletes before competition.
Assist with various administrative tasks and projects as needed and as communicated by the Director of Athletics and Assistant AD.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training (Master of Science preferred)
Board of Certification Certified
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in athletic training and collaborating with a health team, preferred
Current First Aid, CPR/AED Certifications
Proof of Professional Liability Insurance
New York State Licensure
Excellent organization and communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Superior skills as a teammate and colleague
Must be flexible and available to work evenings
