Two post-doctoral fellow/scientist positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Shaoping Hou at the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center (DCRC), University of Missouri - Columbia. The research team uses rat models to study autonomic dysfunction, particularly cardiovascular and bladder disorders, after spinal cord injury (SCI). We will mainly explore cell transplantation, cell reprogramming, and rehabilitation to restore central regulation for autonomic functional recovery. The research team employs a wide range of neuroscience, cardiovascular, and micturition techniques, including SCI animal models, physiological and electrophysiological recordings, neural tract tracing, passive exercise training, pharmacological interventions, and molecular biology as well as histology. The candidate should have strong interests in autonomic neuroscience and experience in working with rodents, and is able to work independently, highly motivated, and enthusiastic. The post-doctoral fellow/scientist will work on neuro-cardiovascular or micturition experiments, data analysis, writing manuscripts, preparing fellowship grants, and helping mentor students and technicians. These positions enable the post-doc to acquire comprehensive research training in autonomic neuroscience areas for pursuing higher academic goals in the future.
The Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center (DCRC) at the University of Missouri provides an outstanding academic environment for gaining training in autonomic neuroscience research. The position will be available until filled. Salary will be based on NIH scale commensurate with experience and capability. Interested applicants are invited to submit a single PDF that includes curriculum vitae, personal statement (research experience and interests), and contact information for three references to Dr. Shaoping Hou (shou@health.missouri.edu).
Qualifications. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience/cardiovascular/Urology or related disciplines. Candidates should have basic skills in animal surgery, histology and microscopy, good publication record, and written and spoken English proficiency. Expertise and experience in cardiovascular physiological recording or peripheral nerve electrophysiological recording are preferred. However, candidates without this expertise but with strong hands-on capability will also be considered as they can be trained after joining the lab.
